Utah Indian Housing Council CDFI Initiative
The Utah Division of Indian Affairs, Utah Indian Housing Council, Division Housing and Community Development, and American Express have partnered with Oweesta First Nations Corporation to explore the possibility of creating a Community Development financial Institution (CDFI). A CDFI is an organization dedicated to providing development services (training and technical assistance) and various types of financial services (checking, savings, consumer loans, business loans, housing loans, etc.) to Native communities encouraging them to become strong and self-sufficient. CDFIs include loan funds, banks, credit unions/associations and venture capital institutions. A Native CDFI (NCDFI) works for the betterment of a Native community and can be located anywhere there is a significant Native population, whether it is on a reservation (federally-recognized and non), in an Alaska Native village, across the Hawaiian Islands or in a metropolitan area anywhere in the 50 states or beyond—as long as the institution is truly serving that Native population.
Rural Community Assistance Corporation(RCAC)
RCAC is highly dedicated to providing information and assistance to Native American groups. RCAC work with hundreds of Native communities continues to expand, focusing on drinking water, wastewater, solid waste, housing and financial services.

Recent Housing Activities
- Provided technical assistance to 7 Mutual Self-Help grantees to produce 415 units of single family housing in rural Utah.
- Provided training, workshops and sponsorship for the state housing conference.
- Provided communication workshops to Pauite Tribe.
- Providing leadership and oversight to Town of Moab and Grand County for affordable housing planning.
- Provided training and workshops to all Utah state Mutual Self-Help organizations in a 2 day statewide conference.
- Participant in Housing on the Hill Day.
- Developing a statewide housing counseling network to serve all UT organizations that provide homebuyer education.
- Training and scholarships for organizations to get housing counseling training and certification
